Ever felt like you were dreaming while doing something you've always wanted to do?
Well, that feeling pretty much describes how I felt last week while being behind the scenes at Cynthia Rowley, Rachel Zoe and Erin Fetherston's Spring 2015 Collections. I was able to chat with the celebrity makeup artists, hairstylists and manicurists that created the runway beauty looks. Below are a few techniques I learned straight from the pros and steps on how to achieve them at home. There's also an insider scoop on a must-have hair product from L'Oreal Professionnel debuting in the Spring.
Makeup artist, Daniel Martin stated Marianne Faithfull in the 1960’s was the inspiration behind the makeup at the Cynthia Rowley presentation. Daniel used the ‘Game Face Deluxe Eyeshadow Palette’ by Cynthia Rowley for the entire makeup look. Daniel told me he used the darker eyeshadows in the palette to contour because all of the darker shades worked for the different skin tones of the models. The palette debuts on Birchbox.com on October 8th and it contains: eyeshadow, highlighter, eyeliner and a brush.
Celebrity hairstylist, John Barrett utilized a flat iron and metal hair clips to create effortless looking waves in half the time it takes when using a curling iron. To achieve the look, simply twist small sections of your and wrap around metal hair clips. Then use a flat iron to apply heat to each section for a few seconds and voila! You now have the effortless waves everyone has been craving.
Find the right neutral nail polish that matches your skin tone and it theoretically elongates and slims the appearance of your fingers. It’s the perfect shade all year-round and a chip here or there won’t have you running to the nail salon. Chief Creative Officer at Cynthia Rowley, Abigail Lorick came up with the color/premise for the nail look. She used 12 different shades of beige and brown from the Color Club to compliment the skin tones of each model. Achieving this look at home is just like trying to find the right shade of foundation. Test out each shade on your nails until you find the one that blends well with your skin tone.
Even women with short hair can rock this trend, according to hairstylist Pepper Pastor; if the length of your hair covers your ears you can easily achieve the 60’s-inspired yet modern chic look she created for Rachel Zoe. For additional length she suggests folding a piece of hair extension in half and braiding it into your natural hair. To seal the look she used L’Oréal Professionnel Perfect Shimmer, which provides shine and hold in one product.
To recreate a version of this hair style at home, Pepper Pastor suggests a few simpler steps for a similar look:
1) Prep hair with L’Oreal Professionel Densite to detangle and add density to hair.
2) Create a center part.
3) Create 2 small tight braids one inch away from the hairline on each side of the part. Leave section of hair between hairline and braid loose to frame the face.
4) Gather the ends of the braids and tie together with the rest of the hair into a low ponytail.
5) Take the loose section you left loose (near the hairline) and secure ends over the braids into the ponytail.
6) Add shine with L’Oreal Professionel Perfect Shimmer.
7) Hold style in place with L’Oreal Professionel Infinium.
Insider scoop – L’Oréal Professionnel will debut a new product called, Next Day Hair. It’s formulated to give grip and texture to your hair, which is perfect for those days you want to style your hair right after washing it. (Debuts May 2015)
The Spring 2015 Erin Fetherston collection was inspired by budding images of quintessential English Rose with a Kate Moss 90’s feel. According to Gina Edwards, manicurist for KISS Products, Inc. the bright white nails are timeless and go along well with the lady-like collection. The gold stripping tape was added to reflect the gold details seen throughout the collection. Recreating this nail look at home is super easy; all you need is the KISS Active Oval Full Cover Nails, white nail polish, gold foil tape and a pair of scissors.
