Before the holidays I went to a thrift shop in Chelsea called Buffalo Exchange. I had bags of clothes, shoes and handbags that I no longer wanted and since the majority of the items were brand new or only worn once I decided to sell them to a thrift shop. This was my first time going to a thrift shop so I really didn't know what to expect. It was rough watching someone go through all of my belongings and putting a price on them but it was a great learning experience. I learned about what type of items they are looking for and how they appraise them.
As a fashionista on a budget I'm always looking for ways to put together trendy/stylish outfits without spending a lot of money. Thrift shops are a great way to go if you are looking for up to date clothes at prices way less than retail. You can also make money or get a store credit by bringing in gently used items that you no longer want. There are plenty of thrift shops in NYC so take advantage!
How it works:
*You must have a valid state ID
*Bring apparel and footwear that is currently in season (call before hand if you're unsure). Make sure the items are clean, new/gently used and current (in style).
*An employee will individually go through all your items and select the one's they are interested in buying from you.
*Then, they will put a price on each item and tell you the grand total.
*From that grand total, Buffalo Exchange offers 50% in store credit or 30% in cash.
You know I just had to take a quick look around the store, I couldn't resist the urge to buy this adorable shirt dress I saw for $11 from H&M. I wore it to work with black leggings and boots later that week and got so many compliments from my co-workers!!! I recommend you check out Buffalo Exchange, you never know what you'll find!
